The Starless Sea Book Review

Thoughts and feels on the Starless Sea

I can't remember the first time I read The Night Circus. I fell madly in love with it though. Nothing compared to the atmosphere. The romance was not my favorite but I enjoyed it none the less. But the story and the world. It blew me away. It was my favorite book of all time for years. I still count it among them. I listened to it on audio about two years ago and loved it then too. But then last year I heard a rumor that Erin Morgenstern was coming out with something new. Within twenty minutes I had found the title, release date, and publisher contact. I emailed the publisher for months until around July of this year. Even as I pestered them, I still preordered it last summer from my local book store. Now here I am. I got hold of it for free early from Libro.fm. The day it was available I downloaded it and began to listen. My hard copy, on the other hand. Will be sitting at Print until December 10 when Erin comes to it for a reading and signing. I am shocked and so excited. It's so amazing I honestly can't believe it's happening.
The plot is magical. Zack a graduate from Vermont, and finds a magical book among the stacks. Somehow this book knows his childhood. In order to find out how this happened. He goes to find out more. He comes across a key, a sword, and a bee. These lead him to a masquerade where there is a doorway to a secret ancient library. That's all I'm going to tell you. There is more to the blurb, but it's just explaining the adventure he goes on. I think it's more fun to find that out yourself.
This book is something so special. I believe strongly that I loved as much if not more then The Night Circus. That's crazy to think. This book took my breath away. I felt it was a mix between, myth, lore, magic, and wonder. It stands up to the expectations that come with being a novel to follow The Night Circus. If you listen to it on audio the first seconds of it. The music it sways you, moves you, sets the mood. It allows you to fall into a fantasy world you feel so safe in. There is an intimacy to this book. A softness. It lets you travel to faraway places and find yourself in other worlds. I wouldn't change this book for anything. This is the pay off for a year of waiting I expected from The Testaments. This is the beauty I wanted so greatly and wished so strongly for. I rarely read fantasy, but if I could find more like this I'd read so much more. If you have any recommendations let me know. I keep reading in reviews that this is a love letter to storytelling. It is. That's exactly what it is, and I'm so grateful. Thanks for reading I'll talk to you Friday.
