5. The Burning

This is a book for the millennial generation. The worst of social media come to bite our main character in the butt. Nothing short of terrible rumors and words are spread involving her after an incident. As a result she and her mother decide to start a new life away from all the gossip. Things are going fine but social media is everywhere and it is so easy to find dirt on someone. Even if you're not looking. I enjoyed this book. For October it could be kind of fun as there are witchy elements. It's a quick read. Difficult at times as far as subject matter, but really it's something everyone should be aware of this day in age. Laura Bates is an author I like to read. I haven't read all of her books but I own most of them. This book is worth a read and overall feminist.

4. Made You Up

Schizophrenia is a subject I find endless fascinating. This book left me with more question then answers about the disorder, but extremely happy with the representation. At least as someone who knows some about it I felt it was good. I'm sure there are elements that did not please everyone as far as the description of the disorder (or illness depends who I speak with) but I thought it was well thought out and described. The story follows Alex a character with schizophrenia. She is sure that a boy she meets at school is or has been one of her hallucinations. As the story progresses things start to feel normal, but she's not use to normal. It's a solid sweet story to follow and a solid read.

3. Paperweight

Anorexia something I have first hand knowlege of. Personally I'm in recovery. This story follows a girl who does not want to recover but is sent to an eating disorder clinic just the same. Now this also addresses suicidal thoughts. Thing get intense fast in this book. There is no down time. If you're recovering or suffering from suicidal thoughts or an eating disorder I would skip this book. The thought spirals are real and raw. The obsession with weight and food is uncanny. I was impressed by this book and if you think you can handle it go for it!

2.Only Ever Yours

What would this be without a dystopian? Following a girl born into a world where women are no longer conceived in a natural way. They are pinned against eachother in looks and not much else. They are rated on a system daily and weighed constantly. The competition is serious and scary. These girls are raised to value their bodies and how men view them and nothing else. This book was excellent. I gobbled it up within a day or two (mind you I wasn't reading as much at the time) no time at all. I adore the story and there is nothing less sinster then these girls and their competitveness.

1.Speak

These are in an order and this is my number 1 book on the list. I have loved this book since I was 13. It's stuck with me for personal reasons and left me feeling heard. When I found this book I felt alone and scared that I was losing my mind, but this saved me. This is a book about rape. A young girl is raped at a party and stays silent the entire school year. (spoiler) Untill she breaks down. I wont tell you who did it, but there is a story to that. For years this book has been a favorite, and will continue to be. If you read any book off this list let it be this one.

Ok lets be real here none of these books are light reads. I kinda got you into some dark topics. However this is ushally what I read so ... If you want to see something different ask. I'm happy to oblige. I'll talk to you on Friday!
